El Warcha

Few years ago I joined El Warcha Lisboa, a non-profit cultural association that promotes the empowerment of the most vulnerable socio-economic groups through a social and community workshop that supports creative empowerment and collective making.

El Warcha means workshop in Arabic and is a social and community studio, is guided by the following values:

  • Social inclusion through a network of proximity and a social space;
  • Development of a sense of community through collective work and collaboration;
  • Personal and professional growth and independence;
  • Strengthening the link between the social, cultural and economic sectors, through the social impact of artistic activity and collective work in building a sense of community.

El Warcha is part of a network of community and solidarity ateliers in various locations such as London, Tunis, Nefta and Davis, strengthening this sense of solidarity and mutual aid across borders.
